Sears Holdings Corporation was formed out of the  acquisition of department store operator Sears, Roebuck and Co. by Kmart Holding Corp. in 2005. The merger created one of the country's most massive retailers (behind only Wal-Mart and Home Depot), with about almost 4000 stores in the US and Canada.
